Culture Summerside, in partnership with The Lest We Forget Committee, presented on Nov 9th, 2022 “A Symbol of Courage: An evening of music and drama marking the 100th anniversary of the Prince County Soldiers’ Monument”, which paid tribute to the men of the county who lost their lives in World War I. In the summer of 2022, the monument went under refurbishment by Brett Davis through funding by Veteran's Affairs and the City.
A series of workshops were led by MacNaught History Centre and Archives in which volunteers to assisted in researching the names of World War One soldiers that appear on the monument located in Summerside’s Memorial Square. The workshops were presented by Louise Morris, a former president of the PEI Genealogical Society. Profiles of the soldiers will be available to viewed soon.
Peter Gallant was commissioned by Culture Summerside to create an original musical composition and video, which was viewed for the first time during the “A Symbol of Courage” production. To view Peter’s video, please visit our video gallery.
